Cam Newton is having a great season this year and was considered a front-runner to win the Heisman Trophy. Newton has led Auburn to an undefeated record this season and a possible spot in the BCS title game. Both Newton and Auburn have hit a bump in the road recently. Cam Newton and Auburn University are under NCAA investigation after reports surfaced that Newton asked for money during the recruiting process.

Reports surfaced several weeks ago when an employee of Mississippi State by the name of John Bond came forward with allegations that a representative of Newton's asked for money to get him to sign. Bond's attorney made a statement to the AP on Bond's behalf saying, "He (Newton's representative) told me that Cam Newton wanted to play at Mississippi State, but that a specified payment would have to be made." Bond's statements have led the NCAA to investigate both Cam Newton and his father Cecil Newton. As of now no punishment has been handed out as a result of the investigation.
